It is hard to believe that yet another year has passed and it is time for me to be writing another "Year in Review" post here on MitchelSellers.com. It seems that each year the time goes by faster and faster. 2012 was most likely one of the fastest paced years for me professionally as there were a lot of changes and as such this blog has suffered a little bit. As I look back at 2012 I will also share some important notes about 2013!
For this year's review I want to take a slightly different approach to my look back in hopes to highlight just how exciting of a year it has been for me. Intermixed in with these content updates will be notes on 2013 plans as well/
In 2012 I had the honor of speaking at even more events than in previous years. With a total of 16 presentations at 13 different locations across the US. In the process I was able to travel to a few places that I had never been before such as New York City and others I was able to meet back up with many people I've met along the way. It has been fantastic going to these events and seeing just how a little bit of information can go a long way!
As 2013 is about to begin I'm looking into my schedule for speaking and events and already things are starting to look like more opportunities are going to be presented. As with previous years I have set aside a budget to cover all travel costs related to me speaking at a limited number of events each year. If you are looking for a speaker on .NET, SQL Server, or DotNetNuke related topics please don't hesitate to contact me!
As you all know IowaComputerGurus' is my consulting business and in 2012 we have had an exceptional year. I've had the pleasure of working with many new clients and on many exciting projects. 2012 was by far the biggest year of growth for IowaComputerGurus with our team growing to as many as 12 people at the peak of the busy season. This didn't come without a few hiccups, but I am very happy to report that in 2013 IowaComputerGurus will continue to be my primary focus. What does this mean for everyone here? Well after turning to only having one priority in the middle of 2012 I have been working to make more time for blogging, forum post answering, etc. Hopefully in 2013 we will start to see the true benefit of all of the stuff I've been organizing in the second 1/2 of 2012.
Blogging and Publications
2012 was a year where admittedly my blogging activity has been down with only a total of 26 posts here on the site. However, there were a few key things that have happened with the blog that will hopefully result in more content being published in 2013. The blog redesign that took place in June-August was a big undertaking that delayed a lot of posting. However, with this done the platform for this blog is much more stable and I have content queued for 2013 to hopefully be able to keep pace with 3-4 posts per month! As we get into 2013 please feel free to submit any suggestions for blog topics and I will do my best to get them included to the list.
Aside from blog activity I have also been working with Wrox Press this year in a Technical Editor capacity and have been lucky enough to work on two different publications this year! I'm toying with a potential self-published DotNetNuke book in 2013, but the final decision on that has yet to be made.
Microsoft MVP Renewal and DotNetNuke MVP Award
In July of 2012 I was renewed for my fourth year as a Microsoft MVP and in October I was one of the first 10 people to be awarded the DotNetNuke MVP designation. Both of these awards continue to be very humbling and it is nice to see that others are seeing value in the content that I post and the presentations that I give. I will continue to do everything that I do and will continue to be very appreciative of the honor of being an MVP.
As always I want to be sure to thank all of you. The support of the community, those reading this blog, those referring customers to me, those encouraging me to continue to contribute are the people that help keep keep me dedicated to what I do!
As we move forward into 2013 look for lots more content here on MitchelSellers.com. On a more personal note I am also re-launching my personal blog here on this site as well. For those of you interested in non-technical content be sure to keep your eyes open for the updates!
