2013 a Year In Review

For the last 4 or 5 years I've done a year-in-review post to summarize technology happenings from the prior year as well as to help set a path into the following year.  Therefore, lets take a look back at 2013 and prepare to leap into 2014!

2013 a Year of Change

2013 seems to have blown by faster than prior years and has been full of such a plethora of new information & technology that it is hard to keep up.  As I look at the things I've been talking about at conferences, the things queued for this blog, and the new sessions I'm preparing for talks in 2014 there has been a lot of new stuff.

Two of the biggest changes in the .NET space for those of us in development would be the release of Visual Studio 2013 as well as the official release of Visual Studio Online.  In addition to all of these items I saw an increased desire for content relating to the use of .NET's Async features and performance optimization still is a hot topic across the board.

2013 Highlights & Honors

I had the opportunity to attend & present at a number of different conferences and events all across the US.  This year I noticed increased attendance at almost event event and more passion than I have seen in previous years.  Having attended events in Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Iowa, & Missouri this year we can see that the passion to learn & share information about developing in .NET is alive and well.

In July I was honored to be renewed for the 5th year as a Microsoft C# MVP, even though it is my 5th year, I'm still humbled and honored to be recognized among this group of individuals.  In October I was renewed as a DNN MVP for the 2nd year which again was a great honor as I love the DNN community and attend as many events as possible!  Lastly, and most likely the biggest surprise for me was being selected as on of the Developer MVPs of the Year in November at the fall MVP summit.  Initially I didn't realize exactly what an honor this was, but it became readily apparent shortly thereafter.

2014 Plans & Request from Readers

As I look into 2014 I have a professional New Years resolution to increase the amount of blogging that is done here on MitchelSellers.com as well as DNNSoftware.com.  I have a backlog of at least 25 blog posts that have not yet made it to real life here on the site.  I will be working to get these out here soon, and will try to make postings here more regular.  Also, if you have a topic you would like to see covered here, please e-mail me!

As I start with 2014 and look at speaking engagements I've only got a few on the calendar.  As I have done in previous years, I will be covering all travel expenses for a select number of user groups, conferences, or other events in 2014.  If you are a user group leader looking for a speaker please reach out and let me know and we can discuss topics & dates.  Or if you are a conference organizer of a Code Camp or other event and would like me to speak, please let me know and I'll gladly submit topics.

I will also hopefully be working on one or two new books in 2014 focused on "practical applications" of technology to provide quick starts for newer technologies.

Thank You & See You Soon!

Thanks again to all of the readers of this blog and those that attend sessions etc.  Your support is greatly appreciated and I look forward to catching up with a lot of you as we go into 2014!
